Why You Should Plan For Sunset Portraits

March 12, 2019

Let’s talk about sunset portraits! Over the years, I’ve learned that I have a favorite time of day to take outdoor portraits! We try to plan all of our sessions around sunset! I’ve found that it’s the one of the time of day that gives me the exact look that I’m going for! Here are 3 reasons why you should plan for sunset portraits! Not just for your engagement portraits but also on your wedding day!

Less Squinting

Have you ever gotten ready to take a photo and looked towards the camera only to realize that you have to squint due to the sun? I’ve been there too! One of the advantages of planning your outdoor photos close to sunset is that you won’t have to deal with squinting!

Best Lighting

There are two times of day that I’ve found has the best outdoor lighting! It’s the 1st hour after sunrise and the last 2 hours just before sunset! The sun is lower in the sky and not as bright. If you’re planning engagement photos or family portraits, I highly recommend planning for one of these two times!

Cooler Weather

Summers in North Carolina are hot! The cooler weather of the evenings makes planning for sunset portraits even better! Not only will you have amazing light in all of your photos, but you’ll also sweat a little less as it won’t be as hot!
