THE JOURNAL

I Second Photographed a Wedding

I don’t get to say it often, but I second photographed a wedding! Just in case you’re wondering what that even means, it means that instead of being the main photographer, I got to assist and help out another photographer! I love whenever I get to hang out with fellow photographers! This time, I got to tag along with Cornell of Cornell Watson Photography! It’s amazing to think that almost 4 years ago, I got to photograph the day that he married McAllister at Stockroom at 230 in Raleigh! Ever since then, I’ve had the pleasure of celebrating with them while they were expecting their adorable little girl! When Corn shared that he was interested in weddings, I didn’t hesitate to ask him to assist and shadow a few of our weddings last year! I was beyond honored when he asked me to assist him at his very first wedding!

We spent the day in Charlotte with this very sweet couple! The bride and groom got dressed at separate locations before meeting at Mercy Church for the ceremony. I love how relaxed the girls and guys were prior to the ceremony! Being a second photographer is a little different from being the main photographer! As the main photographer, I’m planning most of the photographs and making sure that I capture everything! As a second, I get to help set up shots for Cornell as well as photograph various parts of the day! My job is more about making sure that the main photographer has what he needs, filling in the gaps and capturing different angles, etc!

I’m so grateful that Corn allowed me to photograph the bride and her bridesmaids while he photographed the guys! I am obsessed with the girls floral bouquets against their navy bridesmaids dresses!

I think one of the things that I enjoy most about second shooting is that I get to watch and learn too! Although I’ve been photographing weddings for a while now, I feel like you never stop learning! I don’t think that I’ll ever get to a point where I feel like I know it all! Things are constantly changing. I love whenever I get to learn a new skill or a better way of doing things!
