THE JOURNAL

Music Monday + Good Fortune

January 11, 2016

It’s another Music Monday and we are so excited to share some of our favorite songs with you. This week we thought it’d be fun to share 3 of the songs we used during our wedding.  These three songs were and have been some of our favorites for years. So when it came time to choose music for me to walk down the aisle to and to dance to, it was a no brainer.

  1. A Thousand Years – Christina Perri
  2. At Last – Etta James
  3. My Girl – Temptations

And here’s why I chose each one of these songs. From the moment I heard “A Thousand Years”, I thought that it was the sweetest songs with an amazing message. It really didn’t matter to me that almost every girl who got married in 2014 was using it. I just wanted to walk down the aisle to that song. And I’m so glad I did. It was one of my favorite moments of the entire day. One of our past brides, Natalie, and her brother, Aarik Duncan, sung “A Thousand Years” and played the piano as I walked down the aisle. It was amazing! I have always been a huge fan of Etta James and loved the song “At Last”. Brian and I decided to make it the prelude to our choreographed first dance. We started slow dancing to Etta James and then danced to a mixup of salsa, hip hop, and reggae that Brian created. I am nowhere near as talented at dancing as Brian, but I worked it out. I actually begged Brian for months to dance with his groomsmen to “My Girl” by the Temptations. I didn’t think that he would actually pull it together, but he did. And it was very sweet!

Now that you know a little about the songs we chose for our wedding day and why, I’d love to hear what you chose for your wedding day! Leave us a message below.

During one of our visits to Red Bowl in Raleigh, Brian opened his fortune cookie to find this little message inside. We just thought we would share it with you.

Have a great week!
