Girls Weekend in Charleston, SC

Charleston has been on my list of cities to visit for a long time now! When the girls and I started chatting about a girls trip, we knew that Charleston would be so much fun for us! I had only been to Charleston once and that was for a wedding that Brian DJ’ed years ago! We were only there for the wedding and didn’t get to actually tour the city during that trip! After a few months of planning (and waiting), it was officially time for our girls weekend in Charleston, SC! I’ve always heard great things about the city and couldn’t wait to visit!

How We Met

I am always amazed at the friendships that I have with this group of ladies! We all met during college at East Carolina University and have been friends ever since! I met Rachael on the ECU class boards during the summer before freshman year! We ended up having biology together and met face to face for the first time while waiting for class! Rita and I were roommates! She was wearing overalls the first time we met in our 9th floor dorm room! Then Rachael introduced us to Kesha and I thought that there was no way that we would ever be friends! She had this really mean look on her face the entire time we talked! She actually ended up being so sweet and funny! It was probably the next year when we met Kita! She was the girl who lived in front of the elevator in our dorm. We just kind of walked into her room one day and started talking! She’s been stuck with us ever since then!

Friday

After a short drive from Raleigh to Charleston, we headed to our hotel in North Charleston to checkin! We had planned an evening of dinner, drinks and dancing and couldn’t wait to see more of this charming city! We had dinner at Graze in Mt. Pleasant and then headed to King street! 1 long walk and 2 ubers later, we ended up at The Commodore. We had heard that the Funktastics were playing and couldn’t wait to hear a little jazz! The band was great and we had fun singing along to a lot of the songs!

Saturday

We started the morning super early at Hominy Grill for breakfast! The food was really good and our waitress was amazing too! We grabbed food and mimosas then headed out to the port of Charleston for our boat tour. I think that we were all excited about the Spiritline boat tour! It was so neat seeing the city from the water and learning so much more about Charleston’s history! Our tour guide was amazing and pointed out lots of cool spots along the harbor! We got to see Sullivan’s Island, Folly beach and even the Yacht Club! After our boat tour, we headed to Fleet Landing for lunch! I love seafood and it was so good! Sitting outside on the patio was refreshing!

After lunch, we stopped by Jeni’s on King street for ice cream! I noticed that the line was out the door the night before and had a feeling that we needed to try it! Now I’m addicted to their scratch made waffle codes and salted peanut butter ice cream! It was so good that I may have even eaten a little of the paper around my waffle cone and not even noticed! That’s how good it was! After dessert, we headed back to our hotel to relax and take a break from the heat! After a few hours of relaxing in the hotel, we headed out to dinner and our carriage ghost tour. However, we ended up doing the tour first because there was a long wait at Taco Boy! The Ghost Tour was really neat. This was my first time riding on a horse drawn carriage. We got to see more of the city plus hear stories of how the jail and local hotels are haunted! After the tour, we headed back to Taco Boy for tacos and drinks! It ended up being more like corn and drinks. The corn was actually really good and I’m not a huge fan of corn on the cob!

Sunday

This was our last day in Charleston, so we grabbed breakfast together at Another Broken Egg Cafe by city market! Of course there was a wait to be seated and that gave us time to browse through city market! Browsing the shops in city market was fun and I got to try Callie’s Little Biscuits. The cinnamon biscuits are so delicious! Breakfast was good and a great way for us to end our weekend in Charleston.

It’s always good getting together with the girls. Even though we don’t talk everyday or every week, it’s like we haven’t been apart when we see each other! We are already looking forward to our next girls weekend getaway! Maybe we’ll actually make the next one a couples trip!
