We’ve all heard stories of the DJ playing songs that no one wanted to hear at a reception! For this reason, we want to help with creating an awesome playlist for your reception! The music and entertainment at your wedding is very important! The music helps to set the tone and mood of your day! There are typically three parts of your day to plan music for! The ceremony, cocktail hour, and the reception! The reception can actually be broken down into different parts! Dinner, the special events such as cake cutting, first dances, parent dances, etc and then the party! We work with our couples on choosing songs for each part of the day, but today we will chat about creating a great playlist for your reception party!
Choose songs based on your guest
When it came time to choose the “must have songs” for our reception last year, I knew the songs that would get my friends on the dance floor! I knew the songs because they were the songs we partied to back in college! Even though college was almost 10 years ago, I knew that if the DJ played a few of these songs, they would dance! We then chose a few songs that we knew our parents and family would enjoy! Of course, the DJ will mix in other songs that he feels the crowd will enjoy! I love Taylor Swift and Beyonce, but I knew that my guest wouldn’t enjoy hearing that all night!
Ask your guest
We love the idea of sending little cards with your invitations and RSVPs asking the guest which songs they would like to hear during the reception party! This way everyone gets to pick a song that they really like! Plus it’s always exciting when the DJ plays one of the songs and someone screams “that’s the song I wrote down”!
These are just a couple of things that we have seen work great when creating a playlist for your wedding reception! Cheers to an awesome reception party!
