Should We Do the Garter and Bouquet Toss

We’re going to chat about a topic that we get asked quite often! Should we do the garter and bouquet toss at our wedding? You guys have asked and we’re going to answer that question for you today!

The garter toss tradition is when the groom removes the garter from the bride’s leg during the reception! Once he has removed it, he then tosses it towards all of the eligible bachelors at the wedding! The bouquet is very similar in that the bride tosses her bouquet (or an extra throw away bouquet) for the singles ladies to catch! The tradition is that whoever catches the garter and/or bouquet will be the next to get married! I have no idea if this tradition typically leads to these two individuals getting engaged next or not, but the bouquet and garter toss are interesting to watch!

You may be wondering if you should do the garter and bouquet toss at your wedding! Our answer to that question is it totally depends! We’ve watched a lot of garter removals and tosses over the years! We’ve also witnessed a lot of bouquet tosses over the years! We think that both traditions are fun and exciting! The single girls at your wedding will probably love catching the bouquet! The single guys at your wedding will more than likely let the garter fall to the ground! But in the end, the decision is totally up to you!

Lately, a lot of our couples have decided to skip the garter and bouquet toss! Sometimes it’s because they’d rather spend that time dancing and mingling with friends! Sometimes it’s because they simply do not want a traditional wedding! We think that it totally comes down to your personal preference.
