5 Tips for Choosing Music for your Reception

August 11, 2015

Everyone loves a great party! I know I certainly do! There’s just something about a group of people dancing, laughing and having fun that makes an awesome evening. When it comes to choosing music for your reception, many couples draw a blank on what they’d like to hear. Brian has put together 5 tips to make choosing music for your reception a little easier.

1. Think back

When it came time to choose songs for our wedding reception last year, I knew I wanted to hear all of the songs that my friends and I use to dance to while at East Carolina. Even though most of the songs are well over 10 years old (I’m aging myself), I knew that they would get the party started. Don’t be afraid to dig up some of those old songs that always got you and your friends dancing back in the day.

2. Special Songs

We all have those songs that are special to us as a couple. Call us weird, but Chris Brown “Take you down” has been one of our songs since day one! Long story! But Brian found a way to incorporate that song into our wedding and totally rocked it. Think about songs that have meaning to your relationship. Whether it’s one of the first songs you ever danced to or a song from one of your favorite movies. Then find a way to incorporate that into your playlist.

3. Do some research

The radio, Pandora and social media are our friends. Especially when it comes to finding songs that you feel would be perfect for your wedding reception. I am forever listening to Pandora and I love that it displays all of the song artist and titles.

4. SHAZAM

This comes in handy when you’re watching a television show or at a party and you hear a song that you think would be perfect for your wedding. But you don’t know who sings it. You can download an app on your phone called Shazam. Anytime you hear a song and you want to know who it is, simply click the Shazam symbol and it will display the artist and title for you.

5. Use reply cards

An awesome way to find out which songs your guest would really enjoy is to include a line on your reply cards asking for one song request! You’ll be surprised at the request you receive and your guest will love hearing the DJ play their request at the reception.

We hope that these tips are useful in choosing music your wedding reception.
