What is an Unplugged Ceremony

March 14, 2018

Imagine that it is your wedding day! You’re so excited to see your groom as you walk down the aisle with your father. You’ve spent the last year and a half planning the perfect wedding day and couldn’t be more excited to see all of your family and friends! The moment you have been waiting for your entire life has arrived! The doors swing open and you begin your walk down the aisle. But something isn’t quite right. Instead of seeing all of your family and friends smiles as they watch you walk down the aisle, you see the back of smartphones and iPads! This may not be what wedding nightmares are made of, but it was certainly a concern of mine when Brian and I got married! This is why we highly suggest planning for an unplugged ceremony! You may ask what is an unplugged ceremony? An unplugged ceremony is when you ask all of your guest to refrain from taking photographs during your ceremony. You ask them to be fully present for your wedding instead of focusing on their smartphones and tablets!

Here are 2 reasons why you should have an unplugged ceremony!

You’ve Hired a Photographer

As a wedding photographer, I love when our couples tell us that they are planning an unplugged ceremony. It means that there won’t be a ton of smart phones and tablets in all of the ceremony photos. It also means that I don’t have to worry about one of the guest jumping in the aisle to take a photo right when the officiant says “you may kiss your bride!” I’ve seen it happen before! It’s okay to let your guest know that you’ve hired an amazing wedding photographer and that you prefer that they be fully present. That brings me to my next topic!

Fully Present

There is nothing worse than being somewhere and not really experiencing the moment because you’re on your phone! I love my cellphone just like the next person, but I believe that everyone needs a break! Especially at a wedding! You will appreciate your guest being there for you and seeing their faces throughout the day makes it even better! Let everyone know that you will be happy to share the professional photos with them after the wedding!
