Weekend in New York | NYC Wedding Photographer

August 13, 2018

For the past month or so, I’ve had New York on my mind! When one of our 2019 couples told us that they wanted to plan their engagement session in New York, we were all for it! I couldn’t wait to spend a weekend in New York! Being a destination wedding photographer and DJ team is amazing! It has allowed us to meet so many awesome people who we probably wouldn’t meet! It also allows us to visit lots of new cities and towns all over the world!

After weeks of planning and watching the weather forecast, Brian and I headed to the airport! This was my 2nd time flying (you can read about my first time here) and I was both excited and nervous! I’m really wondering if that nervous feeling of flying ever goes away! We arrived at RDU airport around 4:30 a.m. Our flight was scheduled to leave at 6 a.m. We’re definitely not morning people, but I do believe in traveling early! We boarded the plane on time, but before we could take off, our pilot told us that we were grounded due to bad weather in NY! After about an hour delay, we finally took off! An hour or so later, we were landing in New York! Thank God for an easy flight!

The forecast was calling for a 90% chance of rain! If you know anything about me, you know that I am a huge fan of natural outdoor light! I don’t mind using flash, but I love natural light! Rain and natural light aren’t really friends! Thankfully, the rain came in small spurts throughout the day and cleared out just in time for our evening engagement session! Adventuring through Manhattan was a lot of fun! It was also a tiny bit overwhelming! There is so much to see and do in the city! It’s a lot busier than Raleigh-Durham and the traffic was crazy! I’ll pass on driving anywhere near Manhattan! This is why I love Uber! We seriously Ubered all weekend!

We checked into our Union Square hotel around 11 a.m. and then headed out to find lunch! We found a cute little spot called Spice. It’s a thai restaurant and the food was so good! I could have ate there again for dinner, but we had cheesecake and pizza plans for later. Brian and I walked about a block from our hotel to Flight Club! I wasn’t familiar with Flight Club, but it’s actually a really cool shoe store in Union Square! After cheesecake and a quick nap, we headed to Brooklyn Bridge Park to meet Nadia and Marzette!

I’ve seen so many photos from Brooklyn Bridge, but this was my first time seeing it in person! The carousel is fun and the view of the bridge is amazing near the water! It was definitely fun photographing their Brooklyn engagement photos! After their session, we ventured over to a pizza placed called Grimaldi’s! I don’t think it’s right to go to NY and not try the pizza! Brian and I headed back to the hotel! By this time, it was at least 11:30 p.m. and we were both exhausted!

We woke up early Sunday morning and headed to JFK for our flight home! We both had so much fun and can’t wait to share more of their engagement session with you guys! Now I just need a day to recover and sleep! Check out a few cellphone highlights from our trip!
