Photography Timeline FAQ’s

September 24, 2015

Creating a photography timeline doesn’t have to be complicated! We want to share a few of the most asked questions when it comes to creating a seamless photography timeline.

What time should we start getting ready?

The time that you should start getting ready varies from wedding to wedding! Your wedding planner can give you a great idea of when that time should be. When it comes to prep photographs, we don’t have to start as soon as you do! If your hair and makeup starts at 9 a.m. for you and your ladies and your ceremony begins at 3 p.m, a start time of 1 p.m. would be ideal to capture details and the finishing touches of makeup! This will vary based on if there is travel involved, if you’re doing a first look, etc.

How much time do we need for formal photos after the ceremony?

We would love to have 1.5 hours for formal photos after the ceremony, but we realize that isn’t always possible. Typically an hour is enough time to capture family formals, bridal party and bride and groom photographs.

Do we need to include travel time between the ceremony and reception locations?

Yes! Definitely factor in travel times when you’re thinking about the photography timeline. Here’s an example.

Family formals, bridal party and bride and groom photos are to be done at the reception venue. However, there is a 20 minute drive from the ceremony space to the reception venue. We should add an additional 25 minutes to the formal photo time once at the reception venue. You can opt to have your cocktail hour a little longer to accommodate the extra time. The guest will be driving the same distance, so it won’t really be that much extra time that they’re waiting for the reception to begin!
