Photographing Wedding Rings

Photographing wedding rings can be an amazing part of a wedding day! It is also one part of the day where you have to super careful not to lose the rings! I absolutely love looking for creating elements of each couples wedding to incorporate when shooting the rings! From legos to cupcakes to donuts, I love it all! I recently decided to try a new technique when it comes to photographing rings! After reading about a convex lens alone, I purchased a pack off Amazon! Little did I know, that not only do they help you create cool photos, they double as macro lenses! It takes a bit of getting use to, but I would have to say that it works really well!

I started with with the photo on the left! I had some striped paper lying around the house and decided to use that as the background for my engagement ring! Both photos were shot with my 50mm lense! However, I used the convex lens in the photo on the right! I simply placed my engagement ring on the striped paper! Placed my lens on manual focus and then held the convex in front of my camera lens! I moved the convex around until I felt the ring was in focus and then snapped the photo! It takes a bit of practice (I’m still practicing), but if you don’t have a macro lense, this technique can come in handy!

Here is a photo of the convex in front of my camera lens! I actually placed it a lot closer for the ring shot!

Here is the after shot of my engagement ring! With a steady hand and a good eye, this technique makes creating macro ring shots easy as pie!

Until next time, have a great day everyone!
