One of the first questions I had when we first started working weddings was what to wear! I had never attended very many weddings and I had no idea what wedding photographers wore to weddings. Did they wear pants, dresses, skirts, full suits, shorts? I was seriously clueless. So just in case you are in the same boat that I was, I have put together a couple of outfits for wedding photographers for you! Along with a few tips of advice when it comes to choosing your outfit for a wedding day!

Be comfortable

My number one piece of advice is to dress comfortably. Whether that means wearing a nice long dress that allows you to move easily or if that means wearing a pair of dress slacks. That’s totally up to you! But I highly suggest being in comfortable in whatever you choose. Wedding days are long and usually pretty hot (at least in North Carolina they are). I am a huge fan of long dresses and dress slacks with blouses. Even more importantly, choose a comfortable pair of shoes. I love Cole Haans for weddings as they are cute and comfy. Totally a win win. I’ve also heard amazing things about Tieks.

Blend In

I move around a lot during the day (especially during the ceremony) and I want to make sure that whatever I wear doesn’t stand out. For this reason, I like to wear darker colors. Black, navy, burgundy, etc. Anything that allows me to be as inconspicuous as possible. I also suggest that you ask the bride or groom about the attire for the wedding. Some weddings are more formal than others and require a dressier approach. For example, if the guest are asked to wear casual attire, I would choose an outfit that isn’t over the top formal. Same as if the guest have been told the wedding will be a black tie affair. Try to blend in as much as possible.
