Our Not So Nursery

December 20, 2016

I’ve always wanted to create a baby nursery! When Niya was born, I dreamed of creating the perfect space for her with cute decor and lots of pink. But it was almost impossible to do at that time. Then when Addie came along, I had the same dreams. Once we found out that she was a girl, I knew I wanted light pink curtains and a gorgeous crib, but we didn’t have the space for it. So now that we’re a little more settled and in our own home with an extra bedroom to create a nursery, I realize that I don’t want a full out nursery! And here’s why.

I like to sleep! Seriously, I love to sleep and I’m not the same when I haven’t had any. Over the years, I have learned a few tricks when it comes to finding ways to sleep with a newborn. And one of the things that I have realized is that I am not a walk back and forth to the nursery kind of Mom. I want baby as close as possible so that the nighttime feedings are as easy as possible. Sometimes that may mean co-sleeping and other times, it might mean having baby in a sleeper right next to the bed! This time I decided to purchase a small sleep rocker that can sit beside the bed for the first couple of months! I also learned that sitting on the bed in the middle of the night trying to rock a crying baby wasn’t the easiest thing! I made up my mind pretty early on that I wanted a comfortable nursery glider. I wanted a place where we could sit and rock for feedings but also a place where I could sleep if the night got really rough! So we converted some unused space in our bedroom into a small baby area.

I can’t wait to finally put this area to use when baby arrives! Only 5 weeks and some days to go!
