Locked Out

October 14, 2019

It’s been almost a week since we indulged in these delicious donuts! Then drove 4 hours home to end up locked out of our house! We can laugh a little about it now, but it was very stressful at the time! Last Sunday, Brian and I packed up the truck and kids and drove to Charleston, South Carolina for Marketa and Bob’s Upstairs at Midtown wedding! Their wedding was beautiful (even with the mini downpour of rain) and Brian had so much fun celebrating with them while the kids and I relaxed in our room at Hyatt House! We ordered pizza and watched cartoons. It was the perfect Sunday evening for us while Brian was at the wedding!

The next morning, we got in a quick workout in the hotel gym, grabbed donuts at Glaze (a little backwards, but that’s okay) and drove back to North Carolina! This is where things got crazy without us even knowing! We dropped our rental car off and picked up Brian’s car! We stopped by Whole Foods for groceries and did some more shopping before heading home! As soon as we pulled into our driveway, we realized that we had left our garage door opener  inside of the rental! Of course, this was hours after they’d closed for the day! If we were normal people, we could have just used our key to unlock the front door! But we added these little gadgets to our doors that won’t allow us to unlock both locks without prior removal! So there we were at 8:30 p.m. Locked out of our house with nowhere to go!

I even had the bright idea to call a sheriff to assist me in breaking and entering the car

We called a locksmith to see if it was possible to break into our garage door somehow! We drove back to the car rental place to see if our opener was still in the car! It was there, but the doors were locked! There was nothing that they could do until the store opened the next morning! I even had the bright idea to call a sheriff to assist me in breaking and entering the car! Not literally, but I was hoping that they could open the door if it meant us being homeless for the night! After all of that and realizing that we were out of luck for the night, we decided to book a hotel room for the night!

Thankfully, we were able to pick up our garage door opener the following morning! I hope that we never have to experience being locked out of our house again! It definitely wasn’t the ending to an amazing weekend that we all expected!
