How to Choose a Getting Ready Location

August 30, 2018

When Brian and I were planning our wedding, we had the hardest time deciding where to get dressed! I knew that I wanted a space that had lots of natural light for me and my girls! I also wanted a location that could accommodate Brian and I to make things a little easier for our photographers! We thought about booking rooms at nearby hotels, but didn’t want the hassle of moving around a lot! We decided that we would get dressed at our wedding venue! Thankfully our Raleigh wedding venue had a space where Brian and his guys could get dressed prior to the ceremony! There was also a bridal suite with windows that was perfect for me and my girls! After photographing so many amazing weddings over the years, I’ve learned that there are a few things that you should look for in the perfect getting ready location! Read on to learn 3 tips for how to choose a getting ready location for your big day!

Windows

I am a huge fan of natural window light when it comes to photos prior to your ceremony! It’s amazing what a little window light can do when it comes to photographing details and portraits! It truly makes all of the difference! I suggest making sure that the space that you choose to get dressed in has at least one decent sized window!

Lots of Space

The room that my girls and I got dressed in wasn’t huge! It was big enough for us to spread apart for makeup and hair! It didn’t feel tight! It simply felt roomy enough for us to have our bags off to one side while our photographers photographed us on the other side of the room!

Privacy

I believe that it’s important that you choose a location that allows you and your groom to have privacy! Many venues have  separate groom and bridal suites that are spaced far enough apart that you don’t have to worry about seeing each other before it’s time! Some venues also have their bridal suites tucked away so that you don’t have to stress over early arriving guest seeing you too! Be sure to look into a wedding venue that allows you to have some much needed privacy on your wedding day!

We hope that these tips on how to choose a getting ready location are helpful when it’s time to start planning your day!
