February is like one big party at our house! Last week, Keegan and I celebrated birthdays! That included way too many cupcakes and cookies! This week, we’re so excited to celebrate Valentine’s Day! I love Valentine’s Day now, but there was a time when I wasn’t a huge fan of it!
As a kid, I loved Valentine’s Day! My Dad would give my Mom and me those yellow Whitman Sampler boxes! I love chocolate and I loved getting one of those boxes every year! Then when I entered high school, my love for Valentine’s Day started to dwindle a little bit! My parents would still celebrate it with me every year, but I never had a Valentine! Everyone would order flowers at school for their “sweethearts” and I would never get one! I never had a high school sweetheart or anything like that! I found myself getting a little sad that I didn’t get to celebrate Valentine’s Day like most of my friends at school!
I had my first job ever in high school and I met this guy who would come in all the time! He was really nice, but we didn’t date or anything! But I remember telling him how I didn’t have a Valentine that year! He showed up at my job with like a million balloons (I’m exaggerating), flowers, candy, and a card! I thought it was the sweetest thing ever!
Looking back, I was so silly to think that I needed a Valentine to celebrate Valentine’s Day! It’s not about the flowers, candy or cards! It’s about the love that you have for yourself and others! It’s the small things that matter so much more than all of the candy and balloons in the world!
Happy Valentine’s Day guys!!
