It’s no secret that Brian and I enjoy traveling to new places together! One of our first “dates” included traveling to Virginia with friends. The following year we celebrated Brian’s birthday with a trip to Atlanta. Travel has always been a part of our life together! As our kids have gotten older, we’ve fallen in love with traveling with them too! We recently spent a weekend in Charleston with family and had so much fun! It was the perfect change of scenery and we got to eat lots of yummy food!
I think it’s safe to say that travel looks a lot different in 2020 than in past years for everyone! I love flying but with Covid-19, we decided to pass on flights for a while. Instead we decided to adventure by car to one of our favorite cities, Charleston. I fell in love with Charleston during a girls trip a couple of years ago. I think it’s a mix of the historic vibes and awesome food. If I’m being real, our only goal on this trip was to relax and eat some amazing food!
After the drive to Charleston, we were starving. Our first stop was Taco Boy for a late lunch! After trying the street corn there years ago, I knew that I wanted the family to try it too! Everyone loved it except Addie! We were surprised that Keegan loved it too! After lunch, we grabbed Jeni’s Ice Cream and checked into our hotel!
The next morning, we woke up before sunrise and drove into the city for photos. We usually wait until the evening sunset for photos, but I’m so glad that we woke up extra early. There was literally no one in the city. Parking was great! The weather was great! The kids were well rested! It was the best thing! And we managed to get some pretty awesome photos in front of the pineapple fountain before walking through some of the nearby streets. After photos, we changed clothes and drove out to Isle of Palms. This place has been on my list for awhile and I finally got to visit it. I was a little surprised to see that it was only a 10 minute drive from our hotel. The girls had fun playing in the waves and Kee got to dig in the sand!
After the beach, we grabbed brunch at Page’s Okra Grill. We tried this restaurant during our trip back in June and fell in love! We love it so much that we ate dinner there on Saturday and brunch there on Sunday. Brian loves the shrimp and grits and I love the fried shrimp and crab cakes. We also tried the chicken and waffles, beignets and sweet potato pancakes. It’s definitely one of our favorite stops in Charleston, SC.
We ended up having the pool all to ourselves that evening. The kids had a blast in the pool. Kee promised us that he’d “slide in the pool in a minute” but ended up sitting on the side splashing his feet the entire time. The girls got to play mermaids. It was the perfect ending to our weekend in Charleston.
