THE JOURNAL

Adopting Pixie | Minted Series No. 5

I’ve always wanted a dog! When I was growing up, I would ask my parents for a dog but my Mom insisted that we would never have a dog that lived in the house. From time to time, we would have outdoor dogs, but I never really played with them. I remember one day, I found a stray puppy under an overturned stump in our yard. I was certain that I had found my new furry friend and for the next few weeks, he stuck around our house. I would put food and water out for him and then all of a sudden, he disappeared! I like to think that he found a new home or decided to move on to a new place before I became too attached! Either way, I said that one day I would adopt a puppy of my own!

Years later, we would visit the local pet shops and browse all of the adorable pups. During one of our visits, the girls and I fell in love with a furry black morkie (yorkie and maltese mix). He was the cutest little ball of fur that I had ever seen and I knew from that moment that I wanted a morkie. At the time, we were in an apartment and I said it wasn’t the right time. A few years later, we moved to the house I had grown up in and decided that the time was right to go in search of a furry friend! I searched local pet shops, websites, asked around and couldn’t find exactly what I wanted. Then one day I came across Joyces Puppy Luv in Angier. She had 2 female morkies that were about 3 weeks old or so! We drove to her house the very same day and put the deposit on one of the females! For the next few weeks, I went completely dog crazy buying all types of bedding, crates, leashes, etc for our new fur friend. I was super excited and couldn’t wait to pick up our new pup. We finally brought her home when she was around 8 weeks old.

Meet our first fur baby, Pixie!
