Now that we’re starting to get more settled in, I think that I will slow down on the DIY projects. But not before creating this semi rustic coffee table. I started with the Lack Coffee Table from IKEA as a base and purchased wood strips to go on top. I came across this idea while cruising Pinterest one day and thought that it would be super easy to make. I didn’t realize just how long it took for stain to dry or how I expected to buy wood without measuring my table first. Off to Lowes I went. I totally forgot to measure the table, so I figured I would just go by what someone had said online who had hacked the table before me. After working with the nicest guy who could probably tell that I knew nothing about wood, he set me up with 5 pieces of 46.5 in length wood. I stained it and let it dry overnight only to realize that it wasn’t exactly what I wanted. It didn’t give me that smooth finish that I wanted, even after sanding it. So back to Lowes we went. This time I actually measured my table and checked out some wood boards that had a smoother finish than the first ones. After a little sanding and staining, it was time to nail the boards onto the table. This part was super easy thanks to a very handy wireless drill. It’s not perfect, but I’m very proud of my little rustic table.
Next week I’ll be sharing one more IKEA hack with you guys! Be sure to stop back by! Have a wonderful week!
