How to Prepare for your Engagement Photo Session

March 29, 2018

I use to think that great photos just happened! Then I realized that I couldn’t have been more wrong! I believe that what you do before your session is just as important as what you do at your session! From choosing your outfit and hairstyle to cleaning your engagement ring, I want to share a few tips on how to prepare for your engagement session!

Find a Professional Makeup Artist

I believe that makeup is a very important when it comes to looking and feeling your best in photographs! I am sort of a plain Jane on most days! I am okay in a pair of sweats with no makeup. But when it’s time to get in front of the camera, I make it a priority to have my makeup done professionally! Send us an email if you need a referral for an amazing makeup artist in the Raleigh area!

Choose your hairstyle

After you’ve decided to have your makeup done professionally, it’s time to begin thinking about hair style!

Choose 2 or 3 outfits for your engagement photos

I suggest no more than 3 outfits for your engagement portraits! Most of our couples choose to have one formal and one casual outfit! A dress for the lady and a suit for the guy works perfectly for the formal outfit. While jeans or a casual dress work great for the second one! I definitely believe that choosing two outfits helps to ensure more variety in your portraits!

Decide on the best location

Choosing a location for your engagement session doesn’t have to be hard! I love when our couples choose a location based on their personality and/or hobbies! One of our past couples were huge hockey fans and decided to go ice skating for part 1 of their session. Have fun with it and choose a location that fits your personalities as well as the outfits that you’ve chosen! I recently shared some of my favorite locations for Raleigh engagement photos!

Relax

The last bit of advice that I have is for you to relax. Don’t get too stressed out about all of the details of planning your engagement session!
