Creating a Family Portrait List

April 1, 2017

A couple of years before our wedding, I met a sister that I never knew that I had. It was crazy to think that I’ve had a sibling for the past 20+ years and I never knew it. Not only did I have a sister, I had a brother in law and a niece. Crazy, right! Fast forward to our wedding and you know I invited my newest sibling to be a part of our special day. This was our second time meeting and having a photograph of my new family members was awesome!

As photographers, we don’t always know your story. We won’t know that you were raised by your Aunt. Or that your Grandmother is your most favorite person in the whole world. Not unless you tell us. When it comes to creating a family portrait list, we will give you the template that we use for every wedding that we photograph. We work with all of our couples prior to the wedding day to create an amazing family portrait list that we use. But you can always take it a step further. Here are a few of the most common family groupings.

Bride + Mom + Dad

Bride + Mom

Bride + Dad

Groom + Mom + Dad

Groom + Mom

Groom + Dad

Bride + Groom + Parents

Bride + Groom + Grandparents

Bride + Groom + Siblings

We can always take these groupings a step further and have the bride with just her sisters. Or the groom with a special Aunt or Uncle. There’s really no rule for it! The most important thing is that you enjoy your day and create beautiful memories with your family in the process!
